This June, CEC’s most sought-after workshop is coming to San Diego, bringing you one of the leading experts in special education to help you with a major issue facing the field: Leading special education at a school site.

Leading Special Education at the School Site: A Comprehensive Workshop

Friday, June 23, 2017
 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

San Diego County Office of Education
6401 Linda Vista Road
San Diego, CA 92111

As a school administrator, you are expected to be an expert on everything. You're judged on the achievements of your students, the quality of your teachers, the level of decorum in your building, and the dropout rate of your students. The one thread that runs through all of these issues is providing high quality special education services to children who come to school with learning, mental, social, emotional, and/or physical disabilities.

Get the information you need to be an effective leader from David Bateman, Ph.D., who literally wrote the book on leadership at the school site. This full-day workshop will include in-depth discussions around special education law and regulations, eligibility processes and decisions, discipline and school-wide behavior programs, and accountability and data-informed decision making.

Join your colleagues in San Diego as Dr. Bateman steers you through the maze of issues in your daily work related to educating children with disabilities. A free copy of “A Principal's Guide to Special Education”—valued at $42.95—and lunch are included in your registration. Group rates are available—contact us to learn more.

By the end of this Hot Topic Workshop, you'll be a school administrator who can:

  • Discuss individual education programs and the principal’s role
  • Identify advanced strategies for dealing with parents
  • Describe strategies for dealing with discipline for students with disabilities
  • Demonstrate understanding in the development of Section 504 plans

Who should attend:

  • School & district administrators
  • Principals
  • Inclusion coaches
  • Teachers
  • Teacher educators
