Webinars
CEC webinars offer an easy, inexpensive way to learn more about critical issues, either on your own or with a group of colleagues or staff. Each registration is for a site; all you need is an Internet connection and a phone, and you can provide professional development to a group for one low price. CEC offers .10 CEU for each hour of webinar instruction. In addition, all registrants receive an electronic copy of the webinar afterward.
All webinar registrations will be accepted until 11:00 PM ET the day before the event.
Closed Captioning is available for all webinars.
Thu., Feb. 9, 2012 4:00PM – 5:00PM ET
Members and other professionals in the field interested in publishing in either of CEC's peer-reviewed journals will benefit from this webinar. Margo Mastropieri and Tom Scruggs, co-editors of Exceptional Children, and Barbara Ludlow, editor of TEACHING Exceptional Children, will discuss the purpose and focus of these journals and the differences in the types of articles published in each, as well as what is involved in preparing an effective submission for a peer-reviewed journal. They also will offer guidelines and recommendations for the development and preparation of articles, and will respond to questions from participants.
This series includes the 3 webinars listed below.
In this three-part webinar series, Paul Riccomini will cover content and instructionally related topics to help you learn about evidence-based practices for teaching mathematics to students who struggle with the critical concepts and skills necessary for success in algebra. These sessions will provide specific content, instructional, and intervention recommendations and will draw upon currently available research-based evidence for teaching mathematics.
Thu., Mar. 1, 2012 4:00PM – 5:00PM ET
Part of: The Arithmetic-to-Algebra Gap: Instructional and Intervention Recommendations A CEC/DLD Collaborative Webinar Series
The work of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel and the Institute of Education Sciences, as well as the Common Core State Standards, collectively explain the multidimensional issues related to teaching and learning mathematics. This webinar will review these recommendations to offer a comprehensive illustration of the instructional supports necessary for struggling students and students with disabilities. In addition to delineating the essential features of evidence-based math instruction, the webinar will discuss the use and importance of explicit instructional techniques and the essential features to look for in selecting interventions.
Tue., Mar. 20, 2012 4:00PM – 5:00PM ET
Part of: The Arithmetic-to-Algebra Gap: Instructional and Intervention Recommendations A CEC/DLD Collaborative Webinar Series
This webinar will provide an overview of evidence-based instruction and interventions for teaching algebra to secondary students. Working with the arithmetic- to- algebra gap framework of Witzel, Smith and Brownell (2001), research-supported instructional approaches will be presented that have been shown to help students with academic difficulties build foundational mathematics skills (such as integers, fractions, and equations) in order to improve success in algebra. Other techniques on how to prevent difficulties with algebra acquisition will also be presented.
Thu., Mar. 22, 2012 4:00PM – 5:00PM ET
Part of: The Arithmetic-to-Algebra Gap: Instructional and Intervention Recommendations A CEC/DLD Collaborative Webinar Series
Because mathematics concepts naturally increase in complexity as students progress through their mathematics programs, it is essential for students to acquire a deep understanding of foundational mathematics concepts and skills. In order to prepare students for the rigors of high school mathematics, teachers must foster the acquisition of critical prerequisite skills throughout elementary and middle school. This webinar will provide an overview of evidence-based instruction and interventions for mathematics for elementary students with the primary focus on interventions for both basic computation and problem solving.
Thu., Mar. 8, 2012 4:00PM – 5:00PM ET
Federal legislation is pending that, if passed, would regulate the use of physical restraint and seclusion procedures for students in school settings. This webinar will discuss the legislative, policy, and practice issues that have arisen because of the deaths and injuries of students due to these procedures. The webinar will provide an overview of the content that will be covered in more detail during the strand on restraint and seclusion at the CEC Convention & Expo in April 2012.
