Thank you for your interest in serving in a leadership position for the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) as either a member of the Board of Directors or as a Student Representative to the Representative Assembly

Before you Apply

President Elect: 

Applicants must have served on the Board of Directors or have equivalent leadership experience within other areas of the Council, in similar organizations/associations, and/or in major administrative roles to be considered for this position.

Each slated candidate for President Elect will make 2 short video clips (with the assistance of CEC staff), each of approximately 2 minutes in length, which will be posted to CEC’s website.  Read more.

Treasurer: 

Nominees must demonstrate both CEC leadership and financial experience.  The Treasurer is appointed by the Board of Directors. The Board will conduct a telephone interview of slated candidates as a part of the appointment process.

Member-at-Large, Canada (1 position): 

Applicants for this position should have demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with the Council and its various activities and must reside in Canada.

Member-at-Large, Diverse Ethnic and Multicultural Groups (1 position): Any member of the Council belonging to a group that, because of racial or ethnic origin, constitutes a distinctive and recognizable entity in our society, e.g., American Indian, Alaskan Native or First Nations; Asian, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander; Black or African American; Hispanic, Latino/a or Spanish. For the 2017 seat, preference will be given to Latino(a)/Spanish candidates. Applicants for this position should have demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with the Council and its various activities.

Member-at-Large, Non-Designated (3 positions): Any member of the Council, including those members who could file for any designated position. Applicants for this position should have demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with the Council and its various activities.

Student Member (1 position)*: Any student member of the Council who is a student (as per the Council’s definition, below) at the time of nomination, appointment, and at the beginning of the term of office. The Student Member is appointed by the Board of Directors. The Board will conduct a telephone interview of slated candidates as a part of the appointment process.

A student member shall be a person enrolled in The Council who is a full-time or part-time student during the academic year as defined by his or her accredited college or university for a period of no longer than 6 cumulative years.

Student Representative to the Representative Assembly

Candidates slated for election as one of two Student Representatives to the Representative Assembly are selected by the CEC Student Committee and elected by the Student members.  All candidates must be CEC Student members.  Before you apply, please review the candidate information and preview application.
