Candidate Statements:
Leadership. I have worked with a variety of individuals,
groups, and organizations in order to foster collaboration, alliances,
and partnerships as key components of my collaborative leadership style.
I have learned from my experiences as a student, educator, researcher,
and life-long learner to balance both interpersonal and
inter-institutional relationships. I would lead through building,
nurturing, empowering, and sustaining a commitment toward each member
and the organization in order to meet the needs of all educators,
educational leaders, parents, community members, and individuals with
disabilities.
Diversity. The qualities of communication, respect,
and wisdom are essential to changing organizations and infrastructures
in ways that ensure economic viability while respecting the need for
human fulfillment. CEC must support and strengthen the contribution of
cultural diversity to sustainable development through leadership;
recruitment and open dialogue of more international/diverse members;
integration of diversity in policy, programs, and professional
development; resources via programs/activities; and partnerships within
local, state, national, and international communities. I am committed to
diversity and echo its importance and benefits at every organizational
level.
Goals for CEC and the Field. Capacity
building: Provide a platform for intellectual and thought
leadership for educational innovation and reform. Laboratory of
ideas: Anticipate and respond to emerging trends and needs in
education and develop education policy recommendations based on research
evidence. International catalyst: Initiate/promote
dialogue and exchange of information among educational leaders,
educators, and CEC members from across the world.

Candidate Statements:
Leadership. As an active member of CEC for 39 years, I
have learned that great leaders lead by example. It is not what they
say, but rather what they've accomplished. Given a task, I will
accomplish it with the utmost precision. I have grown up in CEC and look
at this remarkable organization as a part of my family, something to be
proud of and to support.
Diversity. I teach at a school where 51 different
languages are spoken in the homes of our students. We provide an
atmosphere in which everyone feels respected, supported, safe, and
comfortable. I am proud to teach in a school that cherishes all its
students and families regardless of culture, ethnicity, or disability. I
hope that I will have the opportunity to share some of our successful
activities with future convention planning committees so that CEC can
continue to find ways of celebrating our differences . . . and
cherishing them!
Goals for CEC and the Field. Students with
exceptionalities will always need highly qualified, caring teachers to
provide them with curriculums that are commensurate with their cognitive
abilities. CEC needs to continue to protect the educational rights of
these children and young adults by helping to create and/or preserve the
laws that guarantee them a free, appropriate education. CEC also needs
to continue to support teachers by providing them with continual
professional development and access to the latest educational
research.
