CEC Pioneers Division (CEC-PD)
Who We Are
Members of the CEC Pioneers Division (CEC-PD) are current and past leaders of CEC who offer unique services to CEC and the profession of special education, including:
- Providing time, effort, expertise, and leadership to activities which promote the education and welfare of children and youth with exceptionalities.
- Bringing recognition to longstanding members of CEC who have provided leadership that has positively impacted the lives of exceptional children and youth.
Any person who has been a member of CEC for a period of at least fifteen (15) years, has served as an officer of a CEC Division or state/provincial unit, or is a past president of CEC qualifies for membership.
The CEC/CEC-PD Mentoring Program creates and facilitates supportive, professional relationships between veteran special educators who volunteer to be CEC mentors and CEC student member mentees. The relationship is built through sharing CEC resources, state-of-the-art education information, resources from the IDEA Partnership, the individual mentor’s knowledge, and actual teaching/administrative experiences of the mentor.
Program mentors provide support and technical assistance during the student’s pre-service training, the student teaching experience or graduate studies, and the time of transition from student membership to professional membership in CEC. Volunteers are always needed to expand this popular program, and all CEC premier, professional, and retired members are invited to become mentors.
