Regional Workshop: Utilizing RTI For Behavioral Support

Presenter Bio

Susan Barrett

Susan Barrett has been coordinating the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative in Maryland for the past nine years. She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and certification in Special Education and has served as a teacher, administrator, and coordinator with the renowned Sheppard Pratt Health System since 1993.

Ms. Barrett is currently working with the University of Oregon PBIS Technical Assistance Center as a resource partner. She assists with large-scale implementation of School-wide PBS by providing ongoing training and technical assistance in Maryland, South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. She also works with The Johns Hopkins University to evaluate the impact of PBIS on students, school staff, and school communities.

Additionally, Ms. Barrett has recently organized a network of state coordinators from the Mid-South states. This network seeks to build a formal structure that will establish local capacity for scaling and sharing resources across the region.

Ms. Barrett has been published in the areas of large-scale adoption of PBS, cost-benefit analysis, and adoption of evidence-based practices in schools. She was also elected to serve on the Association of Positive Behavior Supports’ Board of Directors. Her term began in March 2009.
