Regional Workshop: Utilizing RTI For Behavioral Support
Presenter Bio
Susan Barrett has been coordinating the Positive Behavioral
Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative in Maryland for the past
nine years. She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology
and certification in Special Education and has served as a teacher,
administrator, and coordinator with the renowned Sheppard Pratt Health
System since 1993.
Ms. Barrett is currently working with the University of Oregon PBIS
Technical Assistance Center as a resource partner. She assists with
large-scale implementation of School-wide PBS by providing ongoing
training and technical assistance in Maryland, South Carolina, Virginia,
and Tennessee. She also works with The Johns Hopkins University to
evaluate the impact of PBIS on students, school staff, and school
communities.
Additionally, Ms. Barrett has recently organized a network of state
coordinators from the Mid-South states. This network seeks to build a
formal structure that will establish local capacity for scaling and
sharing resources across the region.
Ms. Barrett has been published in the areas of large-scale adoption
of PBS, cost-benefit analysis, and adoption of evidence-based practices
in schools. She was also elected to serve on the Association of Positive
Behavior Supports’ Board of Directors. Her term began in March
2009.
