Free Online Conference: Software-based Learning Supports
Find out how software can help students with learning disabilities succeed in general education classes. The free conference is Oct. 3, 2006, 6:00 p.m. ET.

Online Workshop:
Beginning Reading Instruction

Course Overview

As any teacher knows, reading is the foundation for all learning. Students who do not have a solid foundation of reading skills will continue to fall further behind their peers. This program will provide an easy-to-use methodology for teaching these important skills. Teachers will learn techniques that are based on the latest research and that are practical and simple to implement in the typical elementary school classroom.

Presented by Dr. Anita Archer, this workshop will focus on research-based strategies to strengthen students' phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, word recognition, and comprehension skills.

What is an Online Workshop and How Does It Work?

If you are like many educators, your school's limited budget and your busy schedule may make it difficult for you to travel to attend professional development training. CEC has developed this online workshop to enable you to get the training you need without having to travel or struggle to fit it into your already full day. This course is available nationwide from any computer with Internet access, and you can take it at anytime (day, night or weekend) at your own convenience.

Registration will be ongoing, and you may begin the online workshop at any time you wish. Once you have completed your registration and your payment has been processed, you will receive a username and password that you can use to log in to a special Web site to access the workshop at any time. Once you begin the workshop, you will be able to complete it at your convenience and at your own pace. The entire workshop is about four and a half hours long.

When you access the online course, you will find a videotape of a live presentation, a transcript of the presentation, the course materials (in the form of PowerPoint slides) and other resources.
