CEC 112: Large-Scale Assessment
Continuing Education Units (CEUs): 1.5 or 15 Clock Hours

(Note: Courses CEC 111, 112, and 113 are related. For the most complete understanding of assessment principles, large-scale assessments, and strategies for including students with disabilities in assessments, we suggest that you take the series of three courses.)

This course will cover the purpose, content, and results of large-scale assessments.

  • Begin with a thorough introduction to large-scale assessment, including its goals and its pros and cons.
  • Review the federal and state laws governing assessments, and understand the impact of assessments on students, families, and educators.
  • Explore in depth two of the most popular large-scale assessment tests: the TerraNova and the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT-10). You’ll delve into each test and learn about the test content, the kind of results it produces, and the meaning of the test scores.

Extensive links to state-specific information, articles, and other resources are included throughout the course to supplement and enrich your knowledge about testing. This course includes optional activities and case studies that you can use to practice the skills that you have learned and deepen your understanding of the material.
