Educational Assessment Principles and Practices

(Note: Courses CEC 111, 112, and 113 are related. For
the most complete understanding of assessment principles, large-scale
assessments, and strategies for including students with disabilities in
assessments, we suggest that you take the series of three courses.)
This course covers the purposes of educational
assessment, basic assessment literacy, and the laws and regulations
governing educational accountability and the inclusion of students with
disabilities in accountability programs. This course will help you
to:
- fine tune your knowledge of the principles and
practices of educational assessment and speak with confidence using the
terminology regarding assessment and academic standards;
- understand your own state’s content standards
and testing guidelines as well as the key components of IDEA that impact
testing; and
- explore the technical qualities of good assessments,
including reliability and validity;
Extensive links to state-specific information,
articles, and other resources are included throughout the course to
supplement and enrich your knowledge about assessment. This course
includes optional activities and case studies that you can use to
practice the skills that you have learned and deepen your understanding
of the material.
