Life Centered Career Education Training

To get the most out of the LCCE transition curriculum, take advantage of CEC's on-site or regional training opportunities. CEC also presents a one-day workshop at its Annual Convention & Expo.

Training includes six to 12 hours of instruction, taught in one- or two-day workshops. Each LCCE workshop accommodates up to 40 participants. Each participant receives a copy of Life Centered Career Education: A Competency-Based Approach, 5th Edition, by Donn Brolin, plus materials.

Who Should Take Advantage of this Training Opportunity?

Educators interested in teaching students with disabilities the skills they need to become productive workers and independent adults should take this training. Learn strategies for using LCCE to collaborate with parents, other educators, community service personnel, and the business community to help students achieve success in their everyday lives.

The LCCE curriculum is intended for use with students who have mild disabilities and can read at the third-grade level or above. It has been used successfully for years with students who have learning disabilities, mild mental retardation, and emotional or behavioral disorders. It is also useful for students with sensory impairments, students at risk, and low-achieving students.

What You Will Learn:

  •  Use LCCE to teach functional skills.
  •  Use LCCE's assessment instruments to guide your instructional planning.
  •  Use LCCE units to satisfy requirements of IEPs and transition plans.
  •  Integrate LCCE activities into your current program.
  •  Collect ideas for accessing community resources.
  •  Engage parents in planning.
  •  Implement LCCE in your school or district.

LCCE helps special education teachers meet the transition and testing requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

On-Site Training

Local educational agencies (LEAs), such as school districts, can sponsor on-site LCCE workshops for personnel. Neighboring jurisdictions can participate and share the cost. Training can be customized to meet your district's unique needs. The LEA provides the training site and equipment, such as overhead projectors. Trainers will collaborate with you to develop the agendas and workshop hours.

Costs*:

  • One-day workshop: $2950 now $2500
  • Two-day workshop: $4810 now $4500

* Additional costs include the presenter's travel and per diem expenses.

Local Training Events
There's always room for one more! Individuals and small groups can often join Life Centered Career Education training workshops that LEAs have set up for their own districts.
