CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS AT THE
CEC 2006 CONVENTION AND EXPO
Salt Lake City, Utah

Q: Can I earn Continuing Education Units at the 2006 Convention?

A:
You can earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) by attending a preconvention workshop or all sessions of a Strand. Each hour of participation is the equivalent of .1 CEU or 1 clock hour. CEU fees are not included in convention or preconvention workshop registration. CEU/Clock Hour credits are an extra fee in order to cover processing fees. The fees are as follows:

0.1 - 1.0 CEUs = $20
1.1 - 1.5 CEUs = $25
1.6 - 2.0 CEUs = $30

Submission guidelines will be located in the convention program supplement.

Q: Why can I only earn CEUs for attending a preconvention workshop or all the sessions of a Strand?

A:
CEC only awards CEUs for professional development events that meet CEC criteria including delineation and evaluation of expected learner outcomes for those events. CEC cannot grant CEUs for attending sessions outside Strands and preconvention workshops because they do not meet criteria. Participants who wish to earn CEU credit must document that they attended the event and completed the learner outcomes evaluation by returning the form to CEC with payment.

Q: I don't need CEUs...just something indicating my attendance. What can I do?

A:
Some employers simply want evidence that you attended the event. If you don't need CEUs, but you need something indicating your attendance, you can complete an Attendance Sheet in the convention program supplement and obtain the presenter's signature. Attendance Sheets are not CEUs. CEC cannot verify your attendance sheet. The Attendance Sheet is available to you as a courtesy for you to track your attendance.

Q: Does my organization or school district accept the CEUs or attendance sheet?

A:
Most states and districts require CEUs for licensure renewal. If your supervisor simply wants evidence that you attended an event, the Attendance Sheet will likely suffice. It is the responsibility of the participant to find out prior to the event which documentation their school district or State accepts. CEC will not be able to tell conference participants what is required in their State or district.

CEC is recognized and approved by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) to provide CEUs. Many employers and professional organizations such as ASHA accept IACET-approved CEUs. Please check with your organization and State Board of Education to verify acceptance.
