CEC’s Resources for the 2008 Elections

With Election Day rapidly approaching, CEC is pleased to provide you with resources for the upcoming presidential election. As educators, it is our role to promote civic responsibility and participation in our democracy. CEC has unveiled its “I Educate, I Participate” campaign to illustrate the strong voice of educators as active participants in our society. Together, we can make a difference!

CEC’s Voter Education Guide
Although CEC does not take a position supporting or opposing any candidate or political party, we will provide our members with general information on the presidential candidates, voter registration information, and classroom resources.

Side-by-Side Summary of Candidates’ Positions on Early Childhood Education
Read the positions of Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama on many issues impacting the early childhood education community, including funding, screening programs, autism spectrum disorders, and Head Start. 

Register to Vote
Simply download the voter registration form, fill out, and mail in to the address on the form.

Information on 2008 Races
Just put in your street address to have access to local, statewide, congressional, and presidential candidate information. You can also sign-up to volunteer on the campaigns and donate a campaign contribution. The candidates’ positions on issues are given as well.

Watch Upcoming Presidential Debates Focusing on Education!
On Wednesday, Oct. 15, Senators McCain and Obama will engage in a debate focusing on domestic policy issues, including education. The debate will be held at Hofstra University in New York at 9:00 p.m. EST and will be carried on major news networks. 

On Tuesday, Oct. 21, the education policy advisors for Senators McCain and Obama will participate in a debate titled “Education and the Next President” at Columbia University's Teachers College from 7:00 to 9:00p.m EST.  This debate will be webcast; register now to view this debate online. 

CEC’s Voter Education Kit
Election Day 2008 is quickly approaching. CEC is pleased to offer the Voter Education Kit, containing all the materials you need to spread the message of how important it is for future educators to participate in the elections. Designed specifically for getting the word out, CEC’s Voter Education Kit includes:

Party Platforms
In an effort to outline their beliefs, objectives, and future initiatives, the Democrats and Republicans have unveiled their 2008 party platforms.  Both platforms include views on education, including special education.
