CEC Asks All Senate Candidates to Share Views on
Special/Gifted Education
In an effort to help educate its members on candidates running in Senate
elections across the country, CEC has developed and distributed a series
of questions asking candidates to share their views on special and
gifted education.
This effort -- supported by Children and Youth Action Network
Coordinators -- sought input from all candidates running every Senate
election. It is CEC's goal to provide its members with the tools
needed to become informed and educated voters. CEC is non-partisan
and does not endorse, support or oppose any candidate.
CEC's Questions to Senate Candidates:
1. If elected, how will you use your position in Congress to
financially support states and localities in educating students with
disabilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
(IDEA)?
2. What measures would you recommend to address the national shortage
of special educators?
3. How would you support the education of students with gifts and
talents at the Federal level?
4. How would you address the needs of children with disabilities
and/or gifts and talents in the upcoming reauthorization of the No Child

schools for medically necessary transportation and administrative costs
