About the CEC Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is CEC's administrative, legislative, and policymaking body. The 21-member Board includes four officers: President, President-Elect, Immediate Past-President and Treasurer; 15 Members-at-Large; one Student Member and one External Member. Four Member-at-Large positions are designated for two individuals from multicultural backgrounds, one from a Preschool-12 classroom, and one from Canada. Members of these groups may also apply for any open position. Board Members serve three-year terms.
This year, the CEC membership will elect individuals for the following positions, with terms to begin on Jan. 1, 2013:
- President Elect
- Member-at-Large, Non-Designated (3 positions)
- Member-at-Large, Diverse Ethnic and Multicultural Groups (2 positions)
- Student Member (1 position)
Qualifications Specific to CEC Officer and Board of Director Positions
President Elect: Nominees must have served on the Board of Directors or have equivalent leadership experience within other areas of the Council, in similar organizations/associations, and/or in major administrative roles to be considered by the Nominations Standing Committee for this position.
Member-at-Large, Non-Designated (3 positions): Any member of the Council, including those members who could file for any designated position.
Member-at-Large, Diverse Ethnic and Multicultural Groups (2 positions): Any member of the Council belonging to a group that, because of racial or ethnic origin, constitutes a distinctive and recognizable entity in our society, e.g., Hispanic, Asian and Pacific Islander, African American, Native American/First Nations. For 2013 seats, preference will be given to Native American/First Nations and African American candidates.
Student Member (1 position): Any student member of the Council who is a student (as per the Council’s definition) at the time of nomination, appointment, and at the beginning of the term of office. (Elected by the Board of Directors.)
A student member shall be a person enrolled in The Council who is a full-time student during the academic year as defined by an accredited college or university or a person enrolled in The Council who is a part-time student who is not engaged in full-time employment as a certified professional in the field of education.
