Communities

Our members tell us one of the most important benefits of CEC membership is the opportunity to network with and meet other special educators. From local communities to national leadership roles, you have many opportunities to connect with educators to share information, learn about new developments in your specialty area, and work with to advance your own knowledge and skills as well as the special education field. CEC’s communities include:

Caucuses

CEC’s caucuses are member-initiated groups based on specific areas of interest in special education. The caucus participants exchange ideas, share information, advocate for change, promote awareness of issues, identify and solve problems, and establish professional relationships.

Each caucus is operated independently and offers various resources and services to its members. Most caucuses conduct a meeting at the CEC Annual Convention & Expo. Some offer a newsletter, Web site, mentoring, and other services to their members.

Discussion Forums and Lists

Through CEC’s Discussion Forums and Lists, you can interact with special and general educators worldwide about teaching and learning strategies, discipline, education policy, and more through these open discussions, available any time of day or night.

Leadership

CEC is the leading organization for special education professionals. An essential factor in CEC’s vision for the future, as well as the organization’s growth and development, is the leadership and expertise of our members. CEC’s Board of Directors, Special Interest Divisions, State/Provincial Affiliates, committees, and task forces provide guidance and direction for CEC’s policy and operational directions.

Special Interest Divisions

CEC’s Special Interest Divisions give you an unparalleled opportunity to advance your career, expertise, and effectiveness. The Special Interest Divisions focus on issues, trends, and research in 17 specific areas, and members are provided with professional development, resources to improve practice, and leadership opportunities. Plus, with CEC’s Special Interest Divisions, you have a network of experts in your specialty area with whom to collaborate, learn from, and form professional and personal relationships.

State/Provincial Affiliates

CEC has more than 60 State and Provincial Affiliates that connect you to your regional special education community. In addition to staying abreast of state and provincial special education issues, you’ll also have the opportunity to participate in professional development activities, develop leadership skills, and expand your network of colleagues in the field.

Students

CEC’s Student Chapters give pre-service special educators a head start to meeting their professional goals. Through its student chapters, CEC provides members with professional development seminars, leadership opportunities, networking opportunities through meetings, workshops, and CEC’s Annual Convention & Expo with leading special education experts, the latest information on developments in the field, and guidance on job hunting -- including a job bank just for special educators.
