Bloggers Wanted!

Are you a new special education teacher? Want to share your classroom experiences with your fellow special educators? CEC seeks two to three members to write about their teaching experiences on Reality 101, CEC’s flagship blog. Readers, both peer and veteran educators, will comment on the blog to offer advice and share their own stories.

Please e-mail your completed application, including your resume and a photograph, to Anna Baker (annab@cec.sped.org) at CEC Headquarters by August 7, 2009. Applications will be accepted by e-mail only. Please be sure to complete all four sections of the application before submitting. CEC will select bloggers and notify applicants by Wednesday, August 26, 2009.

Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must:

Be CEC members in good standing and maintain current membership through at least June 2010.

Be special education classroom teachers with three or fewer years’ experience in the field OR student teachers engaged in ongoing field experience.

Have the permission of their school principal or other supervisor (see Section B of the application).

Selection Considerations

CEC is looking for:

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of blogs and other forms of social media.

Proof of excellent writing skills.

Creativity and enthusiasm.

Commitment

Bloggers will be expected to:

Write concise (600-700 words) and compelling entries about their experiences as new special educators.

Contribute consistently (at least twice per month) from October 2009 through June 2010 and adhere to a pre-established publication schedule. Estimated time commitment is four (4) hours per month.

Incentives

Each blogger will be provided with complimentary copies of the following CEC publications: Survival Guide for the First-Year Special Education Teacher, Thriving as a Special Educator, and What Every Special Educator Must Know (“The Red Book”). Each blogger will also have the choice of one of the following options:

$100 gift certificate for use toward CEC products and professional development.

Complimentary one-year CEC Professional-level membership.
