CEC Professional Awards

The CEC Professional Awards give us a unique opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of our colleagues. Through the CEC Professional Awards, we recognize the special educators who have advanced the field and the quality of special education service as well as CEC members whose contributions have moved the Council forward in significant ways. The CEC Professional Awards include the Clarissa Hug Teacher of the Year Award, J.E. Wallace Wallin Special Education Lifetime Achievement Award, CEC Special Education Research Award, CEC Outstanding Leadership Award, CEC Business Award, and CEC Outstanding Public Service Award.

Helpful Hints for Preparing a CEC Award Nomination Packet

  • Label and tab all required sections of the nomination packet.
  • Do not combine any sections of the nomination form. Each section must be fully supplied and separate.
  • Make sure information is legible, neat, and correct. Proofread.
  • Make sure the information supplied answers questions comprehensively.
  • Be sure the signer of each letter of recommendation is identified with a title.
  • Be sure all materials are enclosed in one package. Materials such as letters of recommendation that arrive separately from the package will not be accepted.
  • If possible, send the nomination packet early so you can be notified if any information is missing.
  • You may want to send your nomination packet by certified mail.
  • Make sure you have the proper signature on the form.
  • All required information must be submitted in hard copy.
If you are submitting a nomination packet from outside the United States, consider submitting it earlier or by an express mail service so that your nomination packet arrives close to the postmark date.

Please address any inquiries about the CEC Awards to Lynda Van Kuren at CEC Headquarters. Inquiries regarding the Yes I Can! Awards should be directed to the Yes I Can! Foundation for Exceptional Children at yesican@cec.sped.org.
