Contact Sharon Rodriguez with general questions about committees.

Membership on committees is determined by the chair, subject to approval by the President. Committee members are expected to be well prepared for and actively participate in all meetings and online discussions (as applicable), and to carry out tasks as assigned. The time commitment for committees* is approximately 1 hour every other month for a conference call, and an additional 1-2 hours per month for other activities such as online discussions, reviewing materials, etc. Most committees also have a 1-hour meeting at the annual convention.

* Note: As of January 2017, the Nominations Standing Committee and Representative Assembly Committee
are on a July 1 – June 30 fiscal year. The Interest Form for those committees will be available in early 2018.

If you are just starting your volunteer leadership journey and not quite ready to serve on a CEC Committee, please reach out to a state unit, provincial unit, division or chapter (chapter information is available from state/provincial units). No matter at what level you volunteer, no matter what you do, no matter how much time you spend, YOU make a difference. YOU make a difference for your fellow members, your kids and their families, and your field.

Thank you for taking the time from your busy professional and personal life to give of your talents and expertise. It is only with the commitment of an army of amazing volunteers – people like YOU – that CEC, working collaboratively with its units and divisions, can lead the field of special education in advocacy, standards, and professional learning and practice.
