Individualized Educational Programs
Individualized Educational
Programs (IEPs) are a cornerstone of special education. The IEPs
outlines the services a student with disabilities will receive, where
those services will be provided, and educational goals for the student.
The members of the IEP team work together to develop the student’s
IEP. The IEP Team is composed of the special education teacher(s),
appropriate general education teachers, appropriate related service
personnel (occupational therapist, speech-language therapist…), a
local education agency representative, and the student, if
appropriate.
To help you write IEPs that
work for your students and meet legislative requirements, CEC has
created this resource. It includes information about policy changes that
affect the IEP, how to reduce paperwork connected with the IEP, and
strategies to write effective IEPs, and how to conduct positive IEP
meetings, as well as CEC policies and resources.
