Candidate Statements:
Leadership. Personal and professional
experience has taught me to learn from the past, accept challenge,
question the process, communicate effectively, collaborate and encourage
participation from others, and believe in a shared vision for the
future. These qualities, along with my commitment and passion for CEC,
are the foundation of my approach to carrying out the responsibilities
and duties to lead and serve the organization and advance our
profession.
Diversity. Acceptance and commitment to
diversity is essential to success in meeting the needs of a highly
diverse, multicultural organization. We must acknowledge and embrace the
multifarious human qualities and capacities of our members and of our
students, and celebrate the uniqueness of what each individual has to
offer. Working towards a shared vision of an organization where
differences of opinions, beliefs and values are sought, heard and
respected is vital to the future of CEC.
Goals for CEC and the Field. CEC must
be focused on organizational success sustained by accessible and
unparalleled service to its membership and other stakeholders through
first-class professional development, high quality support responsible
advocacy, and effective policy-making. It must be a visible force at
state/ provincial, national and international levels as a pre-eminent
leader in the field of special education, responding to the growing
public demand for quality services and accountability in a rapidly
changing technological world.
